Bill Title: Amends the Pedestrians with Disabilities Safety Act. Provides that the Governor is authorized and requested to issue a proclamation on Pedestrians with Disabilities Safety Day which: (i) reminds citizens, park districts, and other special recreation districts of the State (rather than only citizens) of the policies with respect to persons with disabilities and urges all citizens and governmental personnel (rather than only citizens) to ensure that the policies are upheld; and (ii) emphasize the need of all citizens and governmental personnel (rather than only citizens) to be aware of the presence of persons with disabilities in the community and to keep safe and functional for persons with disabilities the streets, sidewalks, highways, walkways, and walking, running, or bicycle paths of this State. Effective immediately.

SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
625 ILCS 60/20

Amends the Pedestrians with Disabilities Safety Act. 1 AN ACT concerning transportation.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Pedestrians with Disabilities Safety Act is
5amended by changing Section 20 as follows:
6 (625 ILCS 60/20)
7 Sec. 20. Proclamation. Each year, the Governor is
8authorized and requested to designate and take suitable public
9notice of Pedestrians with Disabilities Safety Day (October 15)
10and to issue a proclamation which:
11 (1) comments upon the necessity for and significance of
12 the Pedestrians with Disabilities Safety Act and discusses
13 the history of laws protecting pedestrians with
14 disabilities;
15 (2) calls upon the citizens of the State to observe the
16 provisions of the Pedestrians with Disabilities Safety Act
17 and to take precautions necessary for the safety of
18 pedestrians with disabilities;
19 (3) reminds the citizens, park districts, and other
20 special recreational districts of the State of the State of
21 the policies with respect to persons with disabilities and
22 urges all citizens and governmental personnel to ensure
23 that the policies are upheld; and

1 (4) emphasizes the need of all citizens and
2 governmental personnel to be aware of the presence of
3 persons with disabilities in the community and to keep safe
4 and functional for persons with disabilities the streets,

8 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
