Amends the Counties Code. Provides that beginning with members elected at the general election in 2002, counties having a population between 800,000 and 3,000,000 according to the most recent federal (previously, 2000) decennial census shall have no more than 18 members on their county board. 1 AN ACT concerning local government.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Counties Code is amended by changing Section
52-3002.5 as follows:
6 (55 ILCS 5/2-3002.5)
7 Sec. 2-3002.5. Beginning with members elected at the
8general election in 2002, counties having a population between
9800,000 and 3,000,000 according to the most recent federal 2000
10decennial census shall have no more than 18 members on their
11county board. If the chairman of the county board is elected
12at-large by the voters of the county as provided in Section
132-3007, the chairman shall not be counted as a member of the
14county board for the purpose of the limitations on the size of
15the county board provided in this Section. Neither a member nor
16the chairman of that county board shall serve simultaneously as
17commissioner or president of the board of commissioners of the
18forest preserve district. No person shall seek election to both
19the county board and the forest preserve commission at the same
20election.
