SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
65 ILCS 5/11-40-3.2 new

Amends the Illinois Municipal Code. Provides that any municipality with under 15,000 inhabitants must allow persons with a valid driver's license to operate an electric vehicle on roadways under the municipality's jurisdiction. Provides that a municipality may impose a reasonable fee for registering electric vehicles.

1 AN ACT concerning local government.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Illinois Municipal Code is amended by adding
5 Section 11-40-3.2 as follows:
6 (65 ILCS 5/11-40-3.2 new)
7 Sec. 11-40-3.2. Electric vehicles. Any municipality with
8 under 15,000 inhabitants must allow persons with a valid
9 driver's license to operate an electric vehicle on roadways
10 under the municipality's jurisdiction. An eligible person must
11 register his or her electric vehicle with the municipality. The
12 municipality may impose a reasonable fee for registering any
13 electric vehicle. For the purpose of this Section, "electric
14 vehicle" means a self-propelled, electronically powered
15 four-wheeled motor vehicle.
