35 ILCS 200/18-242 new

Amends the Property Tax Code. Provides that, in the event there is a statewide freeze on property tax extensions for all tax districts, then there shall be a freeze to appropriations made to the Illinois General Assembly and Constitutional Officers. Effective immediately.

1 AN ACT concerning revenue.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Property Tax Code is amended by adding
5Section 18-242 as follows:
6 (35 ILCS 200/18-242 new)
7 Sec. 18-242. Statewide property tax freeze; appropriations
8to legislature and statewide officers frozen as well.
9Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, if under
10the Property Tax Extension Limitation Law, there is put into
11effect a statewide freeze on extensions provided under this Act
12for all taxing districts, including home rule units, then
13appropriations made to the Illinois General Assembly and
14Constitutional Officers shall also be frozen for the amount of
15time that the property tax freeze is in effect.
16 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
17becoming law.
