Bill Title: Amends the Fire Protection District Act. Provides that the board of trustees of any fire protection district may, by ordinance, require the installation of an access or key box if: (1) a structure is protected by an automatic fire alarm or security system or access to or within the structure or area is unduly difficult because of secured openings; and (2) immediate access is necessary for life-saving purposes. Further provides that an ordinance enacted under this Section may specify the type or class of structure that must install an access or key box, but may not apply to single family residential structures. Effective immediately.

AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 1349
2 AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 1349 as follows:
3on page 1, line 13, after the period, by inserting "In the case
4of a health care facility that is secured by an electronic code
5box that is in good working order, if the owner of the health
6care facility provides the fire department with a valid access
7code, then that health care facility is not required to be
8accessible by an access or key box. For the purposes of this
9Section, "health care facility" means: a hospital licensed
10under the Hospital Licensing Act or the University of Illinois
11Hospital Act; a nursing home or long-term care facility
12licensed under the Nursing Home Care Act; an assisted living
13establishment, as defined in the Assisted Living and Shared
14Housing Act; a mental health facility, as defined in the Mental
15Health and Developmental Disabilities Code; a supportive
16living facility certified to participate in the supportive
17living facilities program under Section 5-5.01a of the Illinois

1Public Aid Code; or a facility licensed under the Specialized
2Mental Health Rehabilitation Act."; and
3on page 2, line 3, by inserting "or to facilities owned or
4operated by a public utility, as that term is defined under
5Section 3-105 of the Public Utilities Act" immediately after
6"structures".
