Bill Title: Amends the General Assembly Organization Act. Provides that the chairman, or any member of any committee appointed by the two houses of the General Assembly, shall (currently, may) administer oaths and affirmations to witnesses called before such committee for the purpose of giving evidence touching any matter or thing which may be under the consideration or investigation of such committee. Provides that such witnesses shall bind themselves under the penalties for perjury as provided in the Code of Civil Procedure. Effective immediately.

Amends the General Assembly Organization Act. Provides that the chairman, or any member of any committee appointed by the two houses of the General Assembly, shall (currently, may) administer oaths and affirmations to witnesses called before such committee for the purpose of giving evidence touching any matter or thing which may be under the consideration or investigation of such committee. 1 AN ACT concerning State Government.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The General Assembly Organization Act is amended
5by changing Section 4 as follows:
6 (25 ILCS 5/4) (from Ch. 63, par. 4)
7 Sec. 4. The presiding officer of each house, and the
8chairman, or any member of any committee appointed by either
9house, or of a joint committee appointed by the two houses of
10the General Assembly, may administer oaths and affirmations to
11witnesses called before such house or committee for the purpose
12of giving evidence touching any matter or thing which may be
13under the consideration or investigation of such house or
14committee.
15 The chairman, or any member of any committee appointed by
16either house, or of a joint committee appointed by the two
17houses of the General Assembly, shall administer oaths and
18affirmations to witnesses called before such committee for the
19purpose of giving evidence touching any matter or thing which
20may be under the consideration or investigation of such
21committee. Such witnesses shall bind themselves under the
22penalties for perjury provided under Section 1-109 of the Code
23of Civil Procedure.
