AN ACT concerning government.
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
represented in the General Assembly:
Section 5. The State Commemorative Dates Act is amended by
adding Section 7 as follows:
(5 ILCS 490/7 new)
Sec. 7. Indigenous Peoples Day. The last Monday in
September of each year is designated as Indigenous Peoples Day
to be observed throughout the State as a day to recognize the
contributions of indigenous peoples with suitable ceremony and
fellowship designed to promote greater understanding and
kinship between indigenous peoples and non-indigenous peoples
of the State of Illinois.
Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
becoming law.
