Comments: IL SB1317 | 2017-2018 | 100th General Assembly

Bill Title: Amends the State Employees Group Insurance Act of 1971. Modifies the term "annuitant" to not include any member of the General Assembly, or the surviving spouse of such a person, who is sworn into office for the first time on or after the effective date of this amendatory Act, and retires as a participating member under the General Assembly Retirement System, for the purpose of administering health benefits under the Act. Provides that eligible members who are members of the General Assembly before the effective date of this amendatory Act may, upon or during retirement from the General Assembly, make an irrevocable election not to participate in the program of health benefits as defined in this Act. Provides that any election not to participate in the program of health benefits made by a member prior to this amendatory Act shall not be considered irrevocable. Provides that the election to not participate must be made during the annual benefit choice period, or upon showing a qualifying change in status, subject to certain specified conditions. Effective immediately.
