State

Iowa.

WHEREAS,
Lois
Brownell
lived
in
several
Iowa
towns
3
during
her
childhood,
graduating
from
Orange
High
4
School
in
Waterloo;
and
5
WHEREAS,
Lois
attended
the
University
of
Northern
6
Iowa
and
worked
in
the
banking
industry
for
several
7
years
before
accepting
a
position
with
the
Iowa
Senate
8
in
December
of
1995;
and
9
WHEREAS,
Lois
began
her
career
with
the
Iowa
Senate
10
as
an
Assistant
to
Legal
Counsel
proofreading
and
11
processing
bills
and
amendments,
and
in
1996
became
an
12
Assistant
Finance
Officer
simultaneously
working
in
the
13
Senate
Legal
Counsel
Office
and
the
Finance
Office;
and
14
WHEREAS,
Lois
seamlessly
transitioned
to
the
15
position
of
Senate
Finance
Officer
in
2009
and
16
currently
holds
the
position
of
Senior
Finance
Officer
17
III;
and
18
WHEREAS,
throughout
her
career,
Lois
has
been
the

consummate
colleague,
supporting
other
staff
and

Senators
alike,
and
stepping
in
whenever
needed
to

ensure
a
smooth
legislative
process;
and

WHEREAS,
Lois
has
diligently
and
with
great

patience,
professionalism,
and
integrity,
performed
a
5
role
vital
to
the
everyday
operations
of
the
Senate
and
6
the
Iowa
General
Assembly
in
supervising,
coordinating,
7
and
maintaining
the
accounting
and
disbursing
8
system
for
the
Senate,
including
among
a
myriad
of
9
responsibilities
assisting
in
preparing
the
budget
for
10
the
Senate
and
for
joint
expenditures,
maintaining
11
records
and
accommodating
revenue
and
finance
12
department
procedures
and
state
auditing
functions,
13
and,
most
especially
for
some,
implementing
personnel
14
and
related
policies
and
procedures,
acquainting
15
employees
with
available
benefits,
preparing
payroll,
16
and
distributing
payments;
and
17
WHEREAS,
as
Lois
leaves
the
Senate
to
engage
in
new
18
adventures,
to
enjoy
hobbies
and
activities
including
19
creating
beautiful
pieces
of
pottery,
hosting
dinners,
20
traveling,
golfing,
and
dancing,
and
to
spend
more
21
time
with
family
including
her
son
Jason,
daughter
and
22
son-in-law
Nissa
and
Doug,
and
much
beloved
grandson,

Lucas;
NOW
THEREFORE,

BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
SENATE,
That
Lois
Brownell

be
publicly
recognized
for
her
years
of
dedicated
26
service
to
the
state
of
Iowa,
the
Iowa
Senate,
and
27
the
Iowa
General
Assembly,
and
congratulated
on
her
28
retirement;
and
29
BE
IT
FURTHER
RESOLVED,
That
a
formal
