WHEREAS,
on
February
7,
2019,
United
States
House

Representative
Alexandria
Ocasio-Cortez
and
United

States
Senator
Ed
Markey
released
a
fourteen-page
5
resolution
for
a
Green
New
Deal;
and
6
WHEREAS,
the
proposed
Green
New
Deal
calls
for
new
7
regulatory
schemes
in
an
attempt
to
address
climate
8
change;
and
9
WHEREAS,
Iowa
represents
the
future
of
America’s
10
energy
needs
as
Iowa’s
rich
agricultural
tradition
11
feeds
and
fuels
the
world;
and
12
WHEREAS,
one-size-fits-all
regulatory
schemes,
such
13
as
the
Green
New
Deal,
will
cost
Americans
their
jobs,
14
hurt
Iowa’s
agricultural
economy,
and
raise
utility
15
rates
for
Iowan
families;
and
16
WHEREAS,
emissions
trading,
energy
taxes,
and
17
similar
schemes
have
been
rejected
by
the
American
18
people
in
the
past;
NOW
THEREFORE,
19
BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
HOUSE
OF
REPRESENTATIVES,
That
20
the
Iowa
Senate
opposes
Congresswoman
Ocasio-Cortez’s
21
and
Congressman
Markey’s
proposed
New
Green
Deal
and
22
urges
the
United
States
Congress
to
reject
it;
and
23
BE
IT
FURTHER
RESOLVED,
That
copies
of
this
24
Resolution
be
transmitted
to
Majority
Leader
of
the
25
United
States
Senate
Mitchell
McConnell,
Jr.,
Speaker
26
of
the
United
States
House
of
Representatives
Nancy
27
Pelosi,
and
each
member
of
Iowa’s
congressional
