LYME
DISEASE
TASK
FORCE
AND
REPORT.

The
department
of
public
health
shall
establish
and

facilitate
a
task
force
to
examine
the
prevalence
and
treatment
3
of
chronic
lyme
disease
in
the
state.

2.
The
membership
of
the
task
force
shall
include
but
is
not
5
limited
to
the
following:
6
a.
A
representative
of
the
department
of
public
health.
7
b.
A
representative
of
the
board
of
medicine.
8
c.
A
representative
of
the
Iowa
medical
society.
9
d.
A
representative
from
the
university
of
Iowa
hospitals
10
and
clinics.
11
e.
An
advocate
concerned
about
chronic
lyme
disease.
12
f.
Other
members
as
the
department
of
public
health
deems
13
necessary.

The
task
force
shall
discuss
the
prevalence
of
lyme
15
disease
including
chronic
lyme
disease
in
the
state,
the
16
appropriate
treatment
of
lyme
disease
including
chronic
lyme
17
disease,
patient
methodologies,
studies
on
the
effectiveness
18
of
various
treatments
for
chronic
lyme
disease,
legislative
19
proposals
concerning
lyme
disease
or
chronic
lyme
disease,
20
board
of
medicine
actions
concerning
lyme
disease
or
chronic
21
lyme
disease,
any
difficulty
in
diagnosing
persons
with
chronic
22
lyme
disease
in
the
state,
the
availability
of
treatment
23
options
for
persons
with
chronic
lyme
disease
in
the
state,
and
24
other
topics
deemed
appropriate
by
the
department
of
public
25
health.
The
task
force
shall
focus
primarily
on
chronic
lyme
26
disease.

4.
The
task
force
shall
develop
recommendations
concerning
28
tracking
of
chronic
lyme
disease,
appropriate
care
protocols
29
for
chronic
lyme
disease,
ways
to
promote
public
awareness
30
of
chronic
lyme
disease,
availability
of
diagnosis
tools
and
31
treatment
options
for
persons
with
chronic
lyme
disease
in
the
32
state,
and
other
recommendations
deemed
appropriate
by
the
33
department
of
public
health.
The
task
force
shall
include
cost
34
projections
for
all
recommendations.

The
task
force
shall,
by
December
15,
2014,
submit
a
1
report
of
its
findings
and
recommendations
to
the
governor,
the
2
general
assembly,
and
the
department
of
public
health.

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
requires
the
department
of
public
health
(DPH)
to
7
establish
and
facilitate
a
task
force
concerning
lyme
disease.

The
task
force
shall
discuss
the
prevalence,
treatment,
9
patient
methodologies,
legislative
proposals,
and
board
of
10
medicine
actions
concerning
lyme
disease
and
chronic
lyme
11
disease.
The
bill
requires
the
task
force
to
discuss
any
12
difficulty
in
diagnosing
and
availability
of
treatment
of
13
persons
with
chronic
lyme
disease.
The
bill
also
requires
the
14
task
force
to
develop
recommendations
for
tracking
the
disease,
15
appropriate
care
protocols,
and
public
awareness
of
chronic
16
lyme
disease.
The
bill
also
requires
the
recommendations
to
17
address
the
availability
of
diagnosis
tools
and
treatment
18
options
for
persons
with
chronic
lyme
disease
in
the
state.
19
The
bill
directs
the
task
force
to
submit
its
findings
and
20
recommendations
to
the
governor,
general
assembly,
and
the
21
department
of
public
health
by
December
15,
2014.
