S.F. 2087 Section 1. NEW SECTION . 314.31 Harold Keller commemoration. 1 1. The department shall design, purchase, install, and 2 maintain signs on or adjacent to interstate 80 near the 3 eastbound and westbound exit ramps to Brooklyn, Iowa, in honor 4 of Harold Keller, who is an Iowa native and one of the six 5 United States marines who rose the United States flag atop 6 Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II. 7 2. The department shall design, purchase, install, and 8 maintain statues on or adjacent to interstate 80 at the 9 eastbound and westbound exit ramps to Brooklyn, Iowa, in honor 10 of Harold Keller. The statues shall be made of bronze and 11 display the six United States marines raising the United States 12 flag atop Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima in 13 World War II. The department shall cause the statues to be 14 illuminated between sunset and sunrise. 15 EXPLANATION 16 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 17 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 18 This bill requires the department of transportation (DOT) to 19 design, purchase, install, and maintain signs on or adjacent to 20 interstate 80 near the exit ramps to Brooklyn, Iowa, in honor 21 of Harold Keller, an Iowa native and one of the six United 22 States marines who rose the United States flag atop Mount 23 Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II. The 24 DOT is also required to design, purchase, install, and maintain 25 statues on or adjacent to interstate 80 near the exit ramps to 26 Brooklyn, Iowa, in honor of Harold Keller, which are to be made 27 of bronze and display the six United States marines raising the 28 United States flag atop Mount Suribachi during the Battle of 29 Iwo Jima in World War II.
