321.189,
subsection
8,
Code
2014,
is

amended
to
read
as
follows:

8.
Veterans
status.
3
a.
A
licensee
who
is
an
honorably
discharged
a
veteran
of
4
the
armed
forces
of
the
United
States
may
request
that
the
5
license
be
marked
to
reflect
the
licensee’s
veteran
status.
6
Upon
such
a
request,
the
word
“VETERAN”
shall
be
marked
7
prominently
on
the
face
of
the
license.
Such
a
license
shall
8
be
issued
only
upon
receipt
of
satisfactory
proof
of
veteran
9
status
pursuant
to
procedures
established
by
the
department
in
10
consultation
with
the
department
of
veterans
affairs.
11
b.
For
purposes
of
this
subsection,
“veteran”
means
a
former
12
member
of
the
armed
forces
of
the
United
States,
a
former
13
member
of
the
reserve
forces
of
the
United
States,
or
a
former
14
member
of
the
national
guard
forces
of
this
state
or
another
15
state,
whether
or
not
the
member
served
on
federal
active
16
duty.
However,
“veteran”
does
not
include
a
former
member
17
of
such
forces
who
was
discharged
under
other
than
honorable
18
conditions.

EXPLANATION

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
21
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

Currently,
a
person
who
is
a
veteran
of
the
armed
forces
of
23
the
United
States
may
request
that
veteran
status
be
marked
on
24
the
person’s
driver’s
license.
This
bill
defines
“veteran”,
25
for
purposes
of
the
driver’s
license
privilege,
to
include
a
26
former
member
of
the
armed
forces
of
the
United
States,
the
27
reserve
forces
of
the
United
States,
or
the
national
guard
28
forces
of
this
state
or
another
state,
whether
or
not
the
29
member
served
on
active
federal
duty,
and
provided
the
veteran
30
has
not
been
discharged
under
other
than
honorable
conditions.
