S.F. 2027 Section 1. Section 260C.14, Code 2020, is amended by adding 1 the following new subsection: 2 NEW SUBSECTION . 25. Require that identification cards 3 issued to students include on either side of the identification 4 card the your life Iowa crisis telephone and text numbers and 5 the national suicide prevention line telephone number. 6 Sec. 2. Section 261.2, Code 2020, is amended by adding the 7 following new subsection: 8 NEW SUBSECTION . 13. Adopt a policy that strongly encourages 9 any postsecondary institution other than a regents institution 10 or community college whose students are eligible for or who 11 receive financial assistance under programs administered by 12 the commission that issues identification cards to students to 13 include on either side of the identification card the your life 14 Iowa crisis telephone and text numbers and the national suicide 15 prevention line telephone number. 16 Sec. 3. Section 262.9, Code 2020, is amended by adding the 17 following new subsection: 18 NEW SUBSECTION . 39. Require that each institution 19 of higher education governed by the board that issues 20 identification cards to students to include on either side of 21 the identification card the your life Iowa crisis telephone and 22 text numbers and the national suicide prevention line telephone 23 number. 24 Sec. 4. NEW SECTION . 280.31 Student identification cards 25 —— your life Iowa information. 26 1. A public school that issues identification cards to 27 students in grades seven through twelve shall include on either 28 side of the identification card the your life Iowa crisis 29 telephone and text numbers and the national suicide prevention 30 line telephone number. 31 2. S.F. 2027 suicide prevention line telephone number. 1 Sec. 5. APPLICABILITY. This Act applies to student 2 identification cards issued on or after the effective date of 3 this Act. A school, institution, or community college that has 4 a supply of unused student identification cards shall use that 5 supply prior to complying with the requirements of this Act 6 relating to student identification cards. 7 EXPLANATION 8 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 9 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 10 This bill requires public schools that educate students 11 in grades 7 through 12, regents institutions, and community 12 colleges to include on either side of identification cards 13 issued to students the telephone and text numbers for your 14 life Iowa crisis, a crisis support program administered by 15 the department of public health, and the national suicide 16 prevention line telephone number. 17 The bill strongly encourages accredited nonpublic schools 18 and nonpublic postsecondary institutions whose students are 19 eligible for or who receive financial assistance under programs 20 administered by the college student aid commission to comply 21 with the provisions of the bill. 22 The bill applies to student identification cards issued 23 on or after the effective date of the bill.
