Iowa
has
a
robust
history
and
unrivaled

passion
for
wrestling
as
a
high
school
sport;
and

WHEREAS,
the
number
of
participants
in
high
school

girls
wrestling
in
this
state
has
grown
tenfold
in
the
7
last
five
years;
and
8
WHEREAS,
the
third
and
fourth
girls
in
Iowa
history
9
qualified
for
the
state
wrestling
tournament
in
10
2021;
and
11
WHEREAS,
457
girls
from
over
100
schools
competed
12
in
the
third
annual
Iowa
girls
state
wrestling
13
championships
in
2021;
and
14
WHEREAS,
a
majority
of
states
in
this
country
15
sanction
girls
wrestling
as
a
high
school
sport;
and
16
WHEREAS,
participation
in
sanctioned
athletic
17
competition
on
the
high
school
level
can
lead
to
18
invaluable
opportunities
to
compete
and
succeed
at
the
19
collegiate
level;
and
20
WHEREAS,
girls
wrestling
remains
unsanctioned
by
the
21
Iowa
High
School
Girls
Athletic
Union
as
a
high
school

sport
in
this
state;
and
23
WHEREAS,
girls
in
this
state
deserve
and
have
earned
24
the
same
opportunity
to
demonstrate
their
skills
on
the

OF
REPRESENTATIVES,
That

Representatives
urges
the
Iowa
High

Girls
Athletic
Union
to
sanction
girls
wrestling

as
a
high
school
sport
and
to
swiftly
take
all

available
measures
to
facilitate
such
sanctioning;
and

BE
IT
FURTHER
RESOLVED,
That
a
copy
of
this

Resolution
be
distributed
to
the
executive
director
of

the
Iowa
High
School
Girls
Athletic
Union.
