H.F. 763 Section 1. NEW SECTION . 148D.7 Resident physician medical 1 liability insurance premium reimbursement. 2 1. A private or public hospital or affiliated nonprofit 3 organization that has a resident physician program in Iowa 4 may annually apply to the department of public health to 5 be reimbursed for the cost of the hospital’s or affiliated 6 nonprofit organizations’ medical liability insurance premiums 7 attributable to resident physicians licensed pursuant to 8 section 148.5 and employed by the hospital or affiliated 9 nonprofit organization. 10 2. The department of public health may adopt rules pursuant 11 to chapter 17A to implement and administer this section. 12 3. This section does not apply to a hospital to which 13 chapter 669 applies. 14 EXPLANATION 15 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 16 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 17 This bill relates to the reimbursement of resident 18 physicians medical liability insurance premiums to certain 19 hospitals and affiliated nonprofit organizations. 20 The bill provides that a private or public hospital or an 21 affiliated nonprofit organization that has a resident physician 22 program may apply to the department of public health to be 23 reimbursed for the cost of the medical liability insurance 24 premiums attributed to an employed resident physician, licensed 25 pursuant to Code section 148.5, of the hospital or affiliated 26 nonprofit organization.
