1.
Section
279.13,
Code
2021,
is
amended
by
adding
1
the
following
new
subsection:

NEW
SUBSECTION
.
6.
If
a
school
district
temporarily

increases
a
teacher’s
classroom
teaching
assignments
by

requiring
the
teacher
to
use
planning
time
or
an
open
period
5
of
time
to
cover
another
classroom
due
to
a
sudden,
unexpected

need
or
when
a
substitute
teacher
is
unavailable,
the
school
7
district
shall
pay
the
teacher,
in
addition
to
the
teacher’s
8
regular
wages
or
combined
salary
in
accordance
with
section
9
284.3A,
an
amount
equal
to
the
time
of
temporary
additional
10
classroom
coverage
multiplied
by
the
equivalent
to
the
highest
11
average
hourly
rate
of
compensation
the
school
district
pays
to
12
a
licensed
substitute
teacher.

inclusion

This
bill
provides
that
when
a
school
district
temporarily

increases
a
teacher’s
teaching
assignments
by
requiring
the

teacher
to
cover
another
classroom
due
to
a
sudden,
unexpected

need
or
when
a
substitute
teacher
is
unavailable,
the
school
20
district
shall
pay
the
teacher,
in
addition
to
the
teacher’s

an
