H.F. 579 Section 1. INTERIM STUDY COMMITTEE ON MEDICAL EXAMINER 1 EFFICIENCIES. 2 1. The legislative council is requested to establish a study 3 committee for the 2019 interim relating to medical examiners, 4 including studying efficiencies in investigating deaths that 5 require autopsies by a medical examiner. 6 2. The interim committee’s review shall include an 7 evaluation of projected future caseloads for medical examiners 8 and funding requirements, an examination of opportunities to 9 foster cooperation and sharing of resources between the state 10 medical examiner office and county offices, a review of areas 11 of coverage for all medical examiner offices, and consideration 12 of methods to better recruit medical examiners to the state. 13 3. The interim committee shall submit its findings and 14 recommendations to the general assembly for consideration 15 during the 2020 legislative session. 16 EXPLANATION 17 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 18 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 19 This bill requests the legislative council to establish 20 a legislative study committee for the 2019 interim to study 21 medical examiners, including studying efficiencies in 22 investigating deaths that require autopsies by a medical 23 examiner. 24 -1- LSB 2444YH (3) 88 ec/rn 1/ 1
