  1  1    Section 1.  Section 96.4, subsection 4, paragraph c, Code
  1  2 2017, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    c.  If the individual has drawn benefits in any benefit
  1  4 year, the individual must during or subsequent to that year,
  1  5 work in and be paid wages for insured work totaling at least
  1  6 two hundred fifty dollars eight times the individual's weekly
  1  7 benefit amount, as a condition to receive benefits in the next
  1  8 benefit year.
  1  9    Sec. 2.  EFFECTIVE DATE.  This Act takes effect July 2, 2017.
  1 10                           EXPLANATION
  1 11 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
  1 12 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly.
  1 13    This bill increases the amount of wages an individual who
  1 14 has drawn unemployment benefits in a benefit year must be paid
  1 15 for insured work during or subsequent to that year in order to
  1 16 be eligible to receive benefits in the next benefit year. The
  1 17 amount is increased from $250 to eight times the individual's
  1 18 weekly benefit amount.
  1 19    The bill takes effect July 2, 2017.
