Section 257.41, subsection 2, Code 2017, is 1 2 amended by adding the following new paragraphs: 1 3 NEW PARAGRAPH. d. Salary and benefits for not more than 1 4 one school employee who is an additional full=time assistant 1 5 principal at the attendance center if paid from the modified 1 6 supplemental amount established under subsection 1 and if the 1 7 salary and benefits for each other assistant principal are paid 1 8 from the school district's general fund. 1 9 NEW PARAGRAPH. e. Salary and benefits for not more than 1 10 one school employee who is an additional full=time guidance 1 11 counselor at the attendance center if paid from the modified 1 12 supplemental amount established under subsection 1 and if the 1 13 salary and benefits for each other guidance counselor are paid 1 14 from the school district's general fund. 1 15 NEW PARAGRAPH. f. Salary and benefits for not more than one 1 16 school employee who is an additional full=time school nurse at 1 17 the attendance center if paid from the modified supplemental 1 18 amount established under subsection 1 and if the salary and 1 19 benefits for each other school nurse are paid from the school 1 20 district's general fund. 1 21 Sec. 2. EFFECTIVE UPON ENACTMENT. This Act, being deemed of 1 22 immediate importance, takes effect upon enactment. 1 23 Sec. 3. APPLICABILITY. This Act applies to school budget 1 24 years beginning on or after July 1, 2017. 1 25 EXPLANATION 1 26 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 1 27 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly. 1 28 Current law authorizes the board of directors of a school 1 29 district to request a modified supplemental amount for costs 1 30 in excess of the funding received under at=risk supplementary 1 31 weighting for approved programs for at=risk students, secondary 1 32 students who attend alternative programs and alternative 1 33 schools, or returning dropouts and dropout prevention. 1 34 Requests for such modified supplemental amounts must be 1 35 approved by the department of education. 2 1 This bill authorizes school districts to use modified 2 2 supplemental amounts to pay for the salary and benefits of 2 3 not more than one employee who is an additional full=time 2 4 assistant principal at the attendance center, not more than one 2 5 employee who is an additional full=time guidance counselor at 2 6 the attendance center, and not more than one employee who is 2 7 an additional full=time school nurse at the attendance center. 2 8 The salary and benefits of the existing employees in those 2 9 positions must be paid out of the school district's general 2 10 fund. 2 11 The bill takes effect upon enactment and applies to school 2 12 budget years beginning on or after July 1, 2017.
