Section
1.
Section
157.10,
subsection
1,
Code
2023,
is
1
amended
to
read
as
follows:

1.
The
course
of
study
required
for
licensure
for
the
3
practice
of
cosmetology
shall
be
two
one
thousand
one
hundred
4
clock
hours,
or
seventy
an
equivalent
number
of
semester
5
credit
hours
or
the
equivalent
thereof
as
determined
pursuant
6
to
administrative
rule
and
regulations
promulgated
by
the
7
United
States
department
of
education.
The
clock
hours,
and
8
equivalent
number
of
semester
credit
hours
or
the
equivalent
9
thereof
as
determined
pursuant
to
administrative
rule
and
10
regulations
promulgated
by
the
United
States
department
of
11
education,
of
a
course
of
study
required
for
licensure
for
12
the
practices
of
electrology,
esthetics,
nail
technology,
13
manicuring,
and
pedicuring
shall
be
established
by
the
board.

The
board
shall
adopt
rules
to
define
the
course
and
content
of
15
study
for
each
practice
of
cosmetology
arts
and
sciences.

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
18
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
lowers
the
clock
hours
required
to
receive
a
20
license
to
practice
cosmetology
from
2,100
hours
to
1,000
hours
21
or
an
equivalent
number
of
semester
credit
hours.
