1.
Section
256.16,
subsection
1,
paragraph
d,
Code
1
2022,
is
amended
to
read
as
follows:
2
d.
Require
that
each
student
admitted
to
an
approved
3
practitioner
preparation
program
participate
in
pre-student
4
teaching
field
experiences
that
include
both
observation
and
5
participation
in
teaching
activities
in
a
variety
of
school
6
settings.
These
pre-student
teaching
field
experiences
shall
7
comprise
a
total
of
at
least
fifty
hours
in
duration,
at
least
8
ten
hours
of
which
shall
occur
prior
to
a
student’s
acceptance
9
in
an
approved
practitioner
preparation
program.
The
student
10
teaching
experience
shall
be
a
minimum
of
fourteen
weeks
in
11
duration
one
school
year
in
duration
during
the
student’s
final
12
year
of
the
practitioner
preparation
program
first
school
year
13
after
being
admitted
to
the
practitioner
preparation
program
.
14
The
program
shall
make
every
reasonable
effort
to
offer
the
15
student
teaching
experience
prior
to
a
student’s
last
semester,
16
or
equivalent,
in
the
program,
and
to
expand
the
student’s
17
student
teaching
opportunities
beyond
one
semester
or
the
18
equivalent.
A
cooperating
teacher
shall
supervise
the
student
19
during
the
student
teaching
experience.
The
school
district
20
or
accredited
nonpublic
school
that
employs
the
cooperating
21
teacher
shall
compensate
the
student
during
the
student
22
teaching
experience.

Sec.
2.
APPLICABILITY.
This
Act
applies
to
students
24
admitted
to
an
approved
practitioner
preparation
program
on
or
25
after
the
effective
date
of
this
Act.

EXPLANATION
27
The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
28
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
relates
to
the
student
teaching
experience
30
provided
in
practitioner
preparation
programs.

Currently,
the
student
teaching
experience
is
a
minimum
of
32
14
weeks
and
takes
place
during
the
student’s
final
year
of
the
33
practitioner
preparation
program.
The
bill
requires
that
the
34
student
teaching
experience
be
one
school
year
in
duration
and

The
bill
