MEDICAID

LONG
ACTING
REVERSIBLE
CONTRACEPTION
1
OPTIONS.
A
Medicaid
provider
shall
provide
counseling
2
regarding
contraceptive
options
as
part
of
a
woman’s
routine
3
prenatal
care,
including
the
availability
of
immediate
4
postpartum
long
acting
reversible
contraceptive
options
such
as
5
the
subdermal
contraceptive
implant.
A
hospital
that
provides
6
childbirth
services
shall
offer
immediate
postpartum
long
7
acting
reversible
contraceptive
options
such
as
the
subdermal
8
contraceptive
implant
to
interested
Medicaid-eligible
women
9
following
delivery
and
prior
to
hospital
discharge.
The
10
department
of
human
services
(DHS)
shall
adopt
rules
pursuant
11
to
chapter
17A
and
shall
take
other
actions
as
necessary
to
12
ensure
that
adequate
information
and
training
are
provided
to
13
Medicaid
providers
to
implement
this
section,
and
shall
assist
14
Medicaid
providers
in
claiming
reimbursement
for
the
provision
15
of
long
acting
reversible
contraceptives
pursuant
to
DHS’s
16
informational
letter
no.
1349

February
3,
2014.

EXPLANATION

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
19
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
requires
a
Medicaid
provider
to
provide
counseling
21
regarding
contraceptive
options
as
part
of
a
woman’s
routine
22
prenatal
care,
including
the
availability
of
immediate
23
postpartum
long
acting
reversible
contraceptive
(LARC)
options
24
such
as
the
subdermal
contraceptive
implant.
A
hospital
that
25
provides
childbirth
services
shall
offer
immediate
postpartum
26
LARC
options
such
as
the
subdermal
contraceptive
implant
to
27
interested
Medicaid-eligible
women
following
delivery
and
28
prior
to
hospital
discharge.
The
department
of
human
services
