Section
136A.5,
subsection
1,
Code
2020,
is

amended
to
read
as
follows:

1.
a.
All
newborns
born
in
this
state
shall
be
screened
3
for
congenital
and
inherited
disorders
in
accordance
with
rules
4
adopted
by
the
department.
5
b.
The
department
shall
expand
the
newborn
metabolic
6
screening
panel
to
include
Krabbe
disease,
no
later
than
7
January
1,
2021.

EXPLANATION

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
10
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
directs
the
department
of
public
health,
12
specifically,
not
later
than
January
1,
2021,
to
expand
the
13
newborn
metabolic
screening
panel
to
include
Krabbe
disease.
