H.F. 2052 Section 1. Section 135.176, subsection 2, paragraph g, Code 1 2020, is amended to read as follows: 2 g. A requirement that the residency program offer persons to 3 whom a primary care , including psychiatry, residency position 4 is awarded, the opportunity to participate in a rural rotation 5 to expose the resident to the rural areas of the state. For 6 the purposes of this paragraph, “primary care” shall include 7 psychiatry, obstetrics, gynecology, family medicine, internal 8 medicine, and emergency medicine. 9 EXPLANATION 10 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 11 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 12 This bill relates to the medical residency training state 13 matching grants program. 14 Under current law, the program requires that a residency 15 program offer persons to whom a primary care residency position 16 is awarded the opportunity to participate in a rural rotation 17 to expose the resident to the rural areas of the state. Under 18 current law, primary care specifically includes the practice 19 area of psychiatry. Under the bill, the specified primary 20 care practice areas are expanded to also include obstetrics, 21 gynecology, family medicine, internal medicine, and emergency 22 medicine. 23 -1- LSB 5768YH (3) 88 pf/rh 1/ 1
