This
bill
relates
to
the
supervision
requirements
for
the
15
provision
of
services
by
a
licensed
master
social
worker
for
16
the
purposes
of
reimbursement
under
the
Medicaid
program
and
17
private
insurance.
18
The
bill
provides
that
instead
of
requiring
that
supervision
19
be
provided
by
a
licensed
independent
social
worker,
20
supervision
is
required
by
a
mental
health
professional
with
21
the
exception
of
a
mental
health
professional
who
is
another
22
licensed
master
social
worker.
23
Under
the
bill,
“mental
health
professional”
is
defined
24
in
current
Code
section
228.1
to
mean
an
individual
who
has
25
either
of
the
following
qualifications:
(1)
holds
at
least
a
26
master’s
degree
in
a
mental
health
field,
including
but
not
27
limited
to
psychology,
counseling
and
guidance,
nursing,
and
28
social
work,
or
is
an
advanced
registered
nurse
practitioner,
29
a
physician
assistant,
or
a
physician
and
surgeon
or
an
30
osteopathic
physician
and
surgeon;
holds
a
current
Iowa
license
31
if
practicing
in
a
field
covered
by
an
Iowa
licensure
law;
and
32
has
at
least
two
years
of
post-degree
clinical
experience,
33
supervised
by
another
mental
health
professional,
in
assessing
34
mental
health
needs
and
problems
and
in
providing
appropriate
35

mental
health
services,
or
(2)
holds
a
current
Iowa
license
if
1
practicing
in
a
field
covered
by
an
Iowa
licensure
law
and
is

a
psychiatrist,
an
advanced
registered
nurse
practitioner
who

holds
a
national
certification
in
psychiatric
mental
health
4
care
and
is
licensed
by
the
board
of
nursing,
a
physician
5
assistant
practicing
under
the
supervision
of
a
psychiatrist,
6
or
an
individual
who
holds
a
doctorate
degree
in
psychology
and
7
is
licensed
by
the
board
of
psychology.
