SENATE RESOLUTION
requesting the city and county of honolulu to establish a business mitigation relief program to assist businesses negatively impacted by the construction of the rail project.
WHEREAS, the Honolulu rail transit project represents the largest and most expensive capital project in the history of the City and County of Honolulu; and
WHEREAS, local businesses along the rail project alignment are currently being impacted by the construction activities directly associated with the rail project to the point where many have reported significant reductions in revenues and numerous businesses have failed or are at imminent risk of failing; and
WHEREAS, while the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation is adhering to federal and state laws that require relocation and advisory assistance be provided to all impacted businesses affected by the construction of the rail project, this assistance may not be adequate; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-eighth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2016, that the City and County of Honolulu is requested to establish a Business Mitigation Relief Program to assist businesses negatively impacted by the construction of the rail project; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu and Chairperson of the Honolulu City Council.
