SENATE RESOLUTION

 

 

RECOGNIZING VOLUNTEER WEEK IN THE STATE OF HAWAII.

 

 


     WHEREAS, National Volunteer Week was first designated by President Richard Nixon in 1974 to encourage community engagement through volunteer service; and

 

     WHEREAS, National Volunteer Week empowers volunteers and reminds them that individuals and communities are at the center of social change; and

 

     WHEREAS, during National Volunteer Week, service projects are performed throughout the country, and volunteers are recognized for their commitment to service; and

 

     WHEREAS, National Volunteer Week will be observed from April 19-25, 2020, and April 18-24, 2021; and

 

     WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii recognized and participated in National Volunteer Week in 2018 and 2019; and

 

     WHEREAS, ongoing recognition of Volunteer Week in the State will serve as a call to action for volunteerism and community engagement; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirtieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2019, that this body recognizes Volunteer Week in Hawaii for the years 2020 and 2021, to coincide with the dates of National Volunteer Week; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the Governor.
