SENATE RESOLUTION
requesting the ewa beach public and school library to allow the staff and students of james campbell high school to use the library's parking lot during school hours.
WHEREAS, both James Campbell High School and Ewa Beach Public and School Library are outstanding educational institutions that faithfully and tirelessly serve the quickly-growing communities of Ewa, Ewa Beach, Ocean Pointe, and Iroquois Point; and
WHEREAS, since its establishment in 1962, James Campbell High School has grown to become the largest public school in the State by student enrollment, serving a population of 3,125 students as of September 2017 from grades nine through twelve; and
WHEREAS, to support its large student population, James Campbell High School also employs a large number of dedicated staff, including one hundred eighty-five full-time equivalent classroom teachers; and
WHEREAS, unfortunately, the fast growth in student enrollment at James Campbell High School has forced the campus to accommodate over a thousand additional students, far exceeding the school's designed capacity; and
WHEREAS, the overcrowding at Campbell High School has resulted in mounting stress on the school's facilities, including a lack of available parking for staff and students; and
WHEREAS, Ewa Beach Public and School Library, which is also under the jurisdiction of the Hawaii State Board of Education, opened in 1971 on the James Campbell High School campus and has separate parking facilities from the high school; and
WHEREAS, allowing James Campbell High School staff and students to use the Ewa Beach Public and School Library's parking during school hours would greatly alleviate the school's parking shortage; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirtieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2019, that the Ewa Beach Public and School Library is requested to allow the staff and students of James Campbell High School to use the library's parking lot during school hours; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Chairperson of the Board of Education, Superintendent of Education, State Librarian, Principal of James Campbell High School, and Branch Manager of the Ewa Beach Public and School Library.
