A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO CONSUMER PROTECTION.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 481B, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§481B-     Retail self-service food; scales; availability.  (a)  When retail self-service food is sold by weight, the seller shall provide, before sale, a scale for the consumer that is approved for use, accurate, and properly licensed by the department of agriculture as a commercial measuring device and that indicates the price of the item being weighed.

     (b)  This section shall not apply to farmers' markets."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2050.

Description:

Requires that food scales be approved for use, accurate, and properly licensed by the department of agriculture as a commercial measuring device and that indicate the price of the item being weighed.  Exempts farmers' markets.  Effective 7/1/2050.  (SD1)
