A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO FREE COMMUNITY COLLEGES.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Section 304A-401, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by amending subsection (a) to read as follows:

     "(a)  The board of regents [may]:

     (1)  May charge resident and nonresident tuition fees for regular courses of instruction at [any] the University of Hawaii [campus, including any community college.] at Manoa, Hilo, and West Oahu Campuses;

     (2)  Shall not charge students who qualify as residents pursuant to section 304A-402 tuition for regular courses of instruction at any community college campus; and

     (3)  May charge students who do not qualify as residents pursuant to section 304A-402 nonresident tuition fees for regular courses of instruction at any community college campus."

     SECTION 2.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2022, and shall apply to tuition fees for fall 2023 semester and thereafter.
