A BILL FOR AN ACT
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
(1) Reside in fire-prone areas within the service territory of the electric utility company; and
(2) Install improvements related to electric infrastructure to reduce or eliminate the impacts of wildfires on their residential properties or purchase emergency equipment or supplies for use in deenergization events.
Benefits may include but not be limited to financial assistance, rebates, subsidized tariffs or rates, and payment programs.
(b) The public utilities commission may approve a program pursuant to chapter 269, Hawaii Revised Statutes; provided that the program or programs are found to be in the public interest.
SECTION 2. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2040.

Description:
Requires the Public Utilities Commission to direct each electric utility company in the State to file proposals for programs to provide certain benefits to residential property owners in fire-prone areas that install electric infrastructure improvements to reduce or eliminate the impacts of wildfires on their residential properties or purchase emergency equipment or supplies for use in deenergization events. Takes effect 7/1/2040. (SD2)
