THE SENATE

S.B. NO.

1308

TWENTY-EIGHTH LEGISLATURE, 2015

STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

RELAting to turtle bay.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1.  The legislature enacted Act 81, Session Laws of Hawaii 2014, to establish a conservation easement preserving 665.8 acres of land owned by Turtle Bay Resort, which is nearly seventy-nine per cent of the open space land owned by the resort.  Act 81 further specified that the conservation easement shall be acquired by means of proceeds from the issuance of $40,000,000 in revenue bonds by the Hawaii tourism authority.  The legislature further finds that the timely acquisition of the conservation easement requires additional funding.

Accordingly, the purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds to the Hawaii tourism authority to complete the conservation easement in Turtle Bay.

SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $250,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2015-2016 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2016-2017 to complete the conservation easement in Turtle Bay.

The sums appropriated shall be expended by the Hawaii tourism authority for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2015.
