THE SENATE

S.B. NO.

1086

THIRTY-FIRST LEGISLATURE, 2021

STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

RELATING TO THE HAWAII HEALTH AUTHORITY.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1.  The legislature finds that the Hawaii health authority was established by Act 11, Special Session Laws of Hawaii 2009, to be responsible for overall health planning for the State and to develop a comprehensive plan to provide universal health care in Hawaii.

However, the state health planning and development agency and the health care innovation office also conduct comprehensive health planning activities.

Furthermore, the private healthcare sector continues to evolve rapidly in response to federal policy changes, new business models, and new technologies.

The Hawaii health authority, therefore, having duly and thoughtfully advanced Hawaii's health policy debate through the performance of its duties, may be abolished as part of the effort to streamline health planning and policy management.

SECTION 2.  Chapter 322H, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is repealed.

SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
