A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO MAKENA STATE PARK.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. The legislature finds that state parks in Hawaii receive over nine million visitors on average every year. The most popular state park on the island of Maui is Makena state park, which receives over 450,000 visitors annually. The legislature further finds that comfort facilities at Makena state park, including showers and restrooms, are insufficient to meet the needs of the public. The legislature additionally finds that the department of land and natural resources has initiated a project to construct two comfort stations at Makena state park. This project is estimated to cost $5,000,000 to complete.
The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds for permitting, design, and construction of two comfort stations in Makena state park.
SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $2,500,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2017-2018 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2018-2019 for permitting, design, and construction of two comfort stations with sewer systems, showers, and additional parking spaces in the second and third parking lots of Makena state park.
The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of land and natural resources for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2017.
