HOUSE RESOLUTION
congratulating nanakuli high and intermediate school's lady hawks varsity softball team for winning the 2013 data house/Hawaii high school athletic association STATE SOFTBALL DIVISION II CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii, the premier sports capital of the Pacific, is proud to recognize those select individuals who maximize their talents and demonstrate persistence, motivation, good sportsmanship, teamwork, and aloha; and
WHEREAS, an important part of a student’s education is the integration of sports activities into the curricula to create a balance between physical fitness and academics; and
WHEREAS, between May 1, 2013, and May 3, 2013, NANAKULI HIGH AND INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL’S LADY HAWKS VARSITY SOFTBALL TEAM overcame tremendous odds to win the 2013 Data House/HHSAA State Softball, Division II Championship; and
WHEREAS, on May 1, 2013, NANAKULI HIGH AND INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL'S LADY HAWKS VARSITY SOFTBALL TEAM beat Kohala High School in the Quarterfinals, 13-2; and
WHEREAS, on May 2, 2013, Kauai High School's Red Raiders fell to NANAKULI HIGH AND INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL'S LADY HAWKS VARSITY SOFTBALL TEAM, 10-0, in the Semifinals; and
WHEREAS, NANAKULI HIGH AND INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL'S LADY HAWKS VARSITY SOFTBALL TEAM triumphed over the St. Francis Saints on May 3, 2013, 5-4, winning the 2013 Data House/Hawaii High School Athletic Association State Softball, Division II Championship game; and
WHEREAS, the superb accomplishments of NANAKULI HIGH AND INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL’S LADY HAWKS VARSITY SOFTBALL TEAM are due to the outstanding athletic abilities, sportsmanship, and determination demonstrated by each of the team’s members: Keanani Chai, Kelcie DeFreitas, Raynette Kahalehoe-Meyers, Daria Kawaauhau, Emma Kawaiaea, Pearl Kealoha, Bray Ann Kekawa-Fred, Chyanne Koko, Lauren Ku-Young, Katherine Lundgren-Aiwohi, Alexis Paulo-Meyers, Precious Paulo-Meyers, Keisha Silva, Shaina Souza, Shaiann Treu, Ashley Van Gieson, Amy Vitale, and Anela Woods; and
WHEREAS, the success of NANAKULI HIGH AND INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL’S LADY HAWKS VARSITY SOFTBALL TEAM can also be attributed to the encouragement, support, and guidance provided by the team’s dedicated and hard-working coaching staff: Head Coach Ricky Gusman, Assistant Coach Tony Dela Cruz, Assistant Coach Lambert Koko, Assistant Coach Chris Clark, Assistant Coach Kalani Beck, and Assistant Coach Waldo Meyers; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2014, that this body hereby commends and applauds the members and coaching staff of NANAKULI HIGH AND INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL'S LADY HAWKS VARSITY SOFTBALL TEAM for winning the 2013 Data House/Hawaii High School Athletic Association State Softball, Division II Championship, and extends to them its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
