HOUSE RESOLUTION
CONGRATULATING THE WINNERS OF THE HAWAII VENTURE CAPITAL ASSOCIATION'S 19TH ANNUAL AWARDS.
WHEREAS, the prosperity and well-being of our communities depend on the vision and entrepreneurial spirit of individuals working to benefit the greater good and promote a robust economy for our island state; and
WHEREAS, the goal of the Hawaii Venture Capital Association (HVCA) is to foster entrepreneurial development through education, exposure to accomplished speakers and other business professionals, and networking with key members of Hawaii's business community; and
WHEREAS, each year at its Awards Gala, HVCA recognizes outstanding entrepreneurship in Hawaii to bring to light and celebrate with pride the many noteworthy achievements that our local businesses and driven entrepreneurs have attained over the past year; and
WHEREAS, LOUIS CONCATO of Carbon Lighthouse was awarded the 2019 HVCA Agriculture/Clean Tech Entrepreneur of the Year Award for developing clean technology for a greener future and improving current agricultural practices to better assist local farmers; and
WHEREAS, DYLAN BUTTERBAUGH, founder and owner of Manoa Chocolate of Hawaii, whose company has consistently seen monthly growth in revenue and customers, was awarded the 2019 HVCA Consumer Packaged Goods Entrepreneur of the Year Award; and
WHEREAS, PETER FUKUNAGA, Director of Hui Car Share, was awarded the 2019 Corporate Intrapreneur of the Year Award; the Corporate Intrapreneur creatively challenges traditions and assertively makes changes in their company culture to ensure fellow employees in their environment and their field are engaged and provides the platform to be intrapreneurial; and
WHEREAS, KEOKI TAVARES, intuitive consultant, healer, and creator of Aloha Elixir, was awarded the 2019 HVCA People's Choice Startup of the Year Award presented to a company that serves as an example for others to follow based on their success, popularity, and the unwavering support of their fellow community members; and
WHEREAS, CHENOA FARNSWORTH, Managing Partner, HENK ROGERS, Co-Founder, and MAYA ROGERS, Co-Founder, of Blue Startups were awarded the 2019 HVCA Investor of the Year Award, an honor that recognizes the most outstanding individual or entity that has contributed significantly to investing in the Hawaii startup ecosystem, not only in the literal capital definition, but also in terms of their investment in the community; and
WHEREAS, ZACHARY HESTER and LAWRENCE HESTER, Co-Founders of FareHarbor, were awarded the 2019 HVCA Special Recognition Award for their outstanding success as Hawaii-based founders of a business experiencing significant growth; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirtieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2019, that this body hereby congratulates LOUIS CONCATO for being named the 2019 HVCA Agriculture/Clean Tech Entrepreneur of the Year; DYLAN BUTTERBAUGH for being named the 2019 HVCA Consumer Packaged Goods Entrepreneur of the Year; PETER FUKUNAGA for being named the 2019 Corporate Intrapreneur of the Year; KEOKI TAVARES for being named the 2019 HVCA People's Choice Startup of the Year; CHENOA FARNSWORTH, HENK ROGERS, and MAYA ROGERS for being named the 2019 HVCA Investor of the Year; and ZACHERY HESTER and LAWRENCE HESTER for being awarded the 2019 HVCA Special Recognition Award, and expresses to them its
appreciation for their devotion and commitment to improving the quality of life for the people in our communities through their exemplary entrepreneurship.
