HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

Recognizing Moanalua high school symphony orchestra for their historic third invitation to perform at carnegie hall.

 

 

 


WHEREAS, the Moanalua High School Symphony Orchestra, comprised of the symphony strings and selected winds and percussion, features some of the most talented musicians in the school, and is under the supervision and leadership of the distinguished Elden T. Seta; and

 

WHEREAS, under the leadership of Elden T. Seta, the music program has experienced unprecedented growth and success, and students have to attained superior levels of achievement in all areas of study at Moanalua High School, including more honor roll students in the music program than in any other school program; and

 

WHEREAS, the greater Moanalua community has laudably mobilized to support the efforts of parents of the members of the Moanalua High School Symphony Orchestra to prepare and equip their students to travel to New York, and create and rehearse a unique performance for the audience at Carnegie Hall; and

 

WHEREAS, the Moanalua High School Symphony Orchestra has shown a dedication to community involvement and charitable causes by playing benefit concerts in partnership with the Moanalua High School Wind Ensemble, raising over $220,000 for causes such as the Honolulu River of Life, Tsunami Relief Efforts in Sri Lanka, and Mercy Ships over the past seven years; and

 

WHEREAS, the Moanalua High School Symphony Orchestra holds the distinction of being the first student orchestra in the country ever to be formally invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City by the Carnegie Hall Corporation in 1998, and performing for a second time in 2005; and

 

WHEREAS, in recognition of their outstanding dedication to excellence in musical performance, the Moanalua High School Symphony Orchestra has been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall for an historic record third time in 2013; now, therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2013, that this body hereby recognizes and congratulates the Moanalua High School Symphony Orchestra for their national recognition and duly earned opportunity, and extends to them sincere congratulations and best wishes as they perform on one of the most prestigious stages in the world.
