HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

CONGRATULATING julia segawa and charles souza jr. as RECIPIENTS OF the presidential award for excellence in MATHEMATICS and science teaching; patrick mcnally AS THE recipient of the 2012 librarian of the year award; and berry andelin as the recipient of the 2012 EXCELLENCE IN SERVICE Award.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, the people of Hawaii take great pride in recognizing and honoring the notable achievements and contributions of educators who, through their extraordinary dedication and personal efforts, significantly improve the quality of education for students in this State; and

 

     WHEREAS, JULIA SEGAWA, a recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, is a science teacher at R. L. Stevenson Middle School and has been an educator for 16 years; she founded the school’s Robotics Team, coordinated annual Science Nights, excursions, and science fairs, was instrumental in securing the school’s Science Signature School status, and was also part of a team that designed and constructed a new science and technology building; and

 

     WHEREAS, CHARLES SOUZA JR., a state resource teacher is a recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching and taught mathematics at R. L. Stevenson Middle School for 15 years; he served as the school's mathematics department chairperson for 5 years and coached the school’s Mathematics Team for 15 years; he also served as the middle school coordinator, where he created an advisory curriculum that focused on developing life skills for students as well as supporting other academic curriculums; and

 

     WHEREAS, PATRICK McNALLY, a librarian at the Hawaii State Library, is the recipient of Hawaii's 2012 Librarian of the Year Award; he has worked at the Hawaii State Library since 1992, overseeing vital capital improvements, coordinating community events, and in addition, maintaining a high level of service for the general public; and

 

     WHEREAS, BERRY ANDELIN, the Circulation Department Support Staff Supervisor at the Manoa Public Library, is the recipient of Hawaii's 2012 Excellence in Service Award, having dedicated many hours of work to the library system; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2013, that this body hereby recognizes, congratulates, and honors JULIA SEGAWA, CHARLES SOUZA JR., PATRICK McNALLY, and BERRY ANDELIN, for their outstanding accomplishments and much-deserved awards, and extends to all of them its warmest aloha and sincere best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
