HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

urging the county of hawaii to EXPLORE A memorandum of agreement with the united states army to provide aeromedical evacuation services for underserved rural areas.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, a growing and aging population has increased the need for emergency medical services in the County of Hawaii; and

 

     WHEREAS, the county's rural areas can be difficult for emergency medical responders to reach, taking up to two hours per round trip; and

 

     WHEREAS, studies have shown that rapid medical intervention significantly increases trauma victims' chances of survival; and

 

     WHEREAS, aeromedical evacuation services would allow emergency medical responders to act more quickly and effectively in rural areas; and

 

     WHEREAS, the United States Army maintains a helicopter training area at United States Army Garrison Pohakuloa on the island of Hawaii; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirtieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2019, that the County of Hawaii is urged to explore a memorandum of agreement with the United States Army to provide aeromedical evacuation services for the county's underserved rural areas; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Director of Health, the Mayor of Hawaii County, the Deputy Director of the Health Resources

Administration, the Commander of United States Army Garrison-Hawaii, and the Garrison Commander of Pohakuloa Training Area.
