HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

CONGRATULATING MICHAEL SANA AS the RECIPIENT OF THE 2015 MILKEN EDUCATOR AWARD, WRAYNA FAIRCHILD AS THE 2015 VOYA UNSUNG HEROES AWARD RECIPIENT, JAN KAMIYA AS THE 2015 PUBLIC LIBRARIAN OF THE YEAR, ANNA MCCORMICK AS THE RECIPIENT OF THE 2015 EXCELLENCE IN SERVICE AWARD, AND ORREN SMITH, BRITNEE AKAU, PHILLIP PALMORE, AND ANNA KIMATA AS RECIPIENTS OF the 2016 PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARD.

 

 

 

     WHEREAS, the people of the State of Hawaii take great pride in recognizing and honoring the superb achievements and notable contributions of educators who, through their extraordinary dedication and personal efforts, significantly improve the quality of education for the children of Hawaii; and

 

WHEREAS, MICHAEL SANA, a teacher at Waipahu High School, is the recipient of the 2015 Milken Educator Award; he has expanded the school's science program and inspired students to further their education and explore scientific research; and

 

WHEREAS, WRAYNA FAIRCHILD, a teacher at Manoa Elementary School, is the recipient of the 2015 Voya Unsung Heroes Award; she encourages students to express their creativity while working together to overcome challenges; and

 

WHEREAS, JAN KAMIYA has been selected as the 2015 Public Librarian of the Year; she maintains the young adult collection at the McCully-Moili‘ili Public Library to provide readers with updated and interesting books in hopes of inspiring them to develop a love for reading; and

     WHEREAS, ANNA MCCORMICK, a Library Assistant at the Wahiawa Public Library, is the recipient of the 2015 Excellence in Service Award; she enjoys interacting with the diverse group of people she meets and believes it is important to greet patrons of the library with a friendly attitude and a smile; and

 

WHEREAS, the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, presented by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), honors young volunteers across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to serving their community; and

 

WHEREAS, ORREN SMITH, a sixth-grader at Hanalani Schools, is a recipient of the 2016 Prudential Spirit of Community Award; he organized an assembly to inform fellow students of the important steps in natural disaster preparedness; and

 

     WHEREAS, BRITNEE AKAU, a sophomore at Kamehameha Schools Kapalama Campus, is a recipient of the 2016 Prudential Spirit of Community Award; she has helped spread the joy of reading to fellow students across Hawaii with her "Gift of Aloha Book Drive" and informed students about the importance of bullying prevention; and

 

WHEREAS, PHILLIP PALMORE, a senior at Kea‘au High School, is a recipient of the 2016 Prudential Spirit of Community Award; he worked to implement a walkway and garden area for patients of the Hilo Medical Center Extended Care Facility; and

 

WHEREAS, ANNA KIMATA, a sophomore at Punahou School, is a recipient of the 2016 Prudential Spirit of Community Award; she collected school supplies to send to students of Pacific Island countries; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-eighth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2016, that this body hereby commends, congratulates, and honors MICHAEL SANA, WRAYNA FAIRCHILD, JAN KAMIYA, ANNA MCCORMICK, ORREN SMITH, BRITNEE AKAU, PHILLIP PALMORE, AND ANNA KIMATA for their outstanding accomplishments and much-deserved recognition, and extends to them its sincere mahalo and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
