HOUSE RESOLUTION
congratulating william f. roback, jr., on his election as ali‘i nui and grandmaster of the royal order of kamehameha i.
WHEREAS, the Royal Order of Kamehameha I, which was founded in 1865 by Lot Kapuaiwa, His Majesty King Kamehameha V, was declared a threat by the provisional government upon the overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawaii and proceeded in secrecy until it was publicly declared restored in a torchlight ceremony in 1903 by His Royal Highness Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole; and
WHEREAS, today, the organization continues to guard, maintain, and preserve the rituals and memory of the ruling Chiefs of Hawaii, working to, among other things, unite men of Hawaiian descent and good moral character in fraternal and benevolent work; cultivate the cardinal principles of friendship, charity, and benevolence; infuse the spirit of patriotism, loyalty, helpfulness, and kindness among its members; and preserve and perpetuate the ancient culture, customs, and traditions of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, a member of the Royal Order of Kamehameha I, Ali‘i Sir WILLIAM F. ROBACK, JR., K.G.C.K., Ali‘i Ai Moku ‘O Kahekili of Maui Island was born in Hana, Maui, and raised in Keanae and Hana, graduated from Baldwin High School in Wailuku in 1957, retired in 1990 after a distinguished career with the Maui County Police Department, and currently resides in Kihei with his wife, Carolyn; and
WHEREAS, Ali‘i
Sir WILLIAM F. ROBACK, JR., was unanimously elected Ali‘i Nui and Grandmaster of the Royal Order of
Kamehameha I during the Papa Ali‘i
statewide Annual Convention conducted on October 17, 2009, at the Kona Sheraton
on the Island of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, in his address to the Royal Order of Kamehameha I, Ali‘i Nui Sir WILLIAM F.
ROBACK, JR., stated, "Brothers, I pledge that I will work very
hard alongside you for the good of our Most Noble Order of Kamehameha I and I
would like to see all of us continue to maintain the dignity as Hawaiian men
ever moving forward;" and
WHEREAS, by exemplifying the standards issued by the Royal Order of Kamehameha I upon its inception, Ali‘i Nui Sir WILLIAM F. ROBACK, JR., has brought pride and honor not only to the people of the County of Maui, but also to all members of the Royal Order of Kamehameha I; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fifth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2010, that this body hereby congratulates WILLIAM F. ROBACK, JR., on his election as Ali‘i Nui and Grandmaster of the Royal Order of Kamehameha I, and extends to him its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors.
