HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

recognizing and CONGRATULATING the 2019 Hawaii healthcare heroes for delivering outstanding and exemplary care to PATIENTS and their families across the state.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, many of Hawaii's healthcare professionals aid those in need and provide comfort to families, often without recognition, and do so without any other intent but to improve the quality of life for patients and their families and loved ones; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Healthcare Association of Hawaii has been a leading voice for healthcare providers in the State since 1939, while also advocating for state and federal policies to achieve a sustainable healthcare system that provides accessible and quality care for the people of Hawaii; and

 

     WHEREAS, in 2013, the Healthcare Association of Hawaii established the Hawaii Healthcare Heroes award program to provide patients and their families the opportunity to recognize and honor extraordinary healthcare workers across our State; and

 

     WHEREAS, BRANDY BOYCE, a 2019 Hawaii Healthcare Hero, is employed as a registered nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children, where she cares for severely sick children, using her expertise to improve the health and well-being of her patients; she also cares passionately about them in ways that are uplifting and inspiring, demonstrating exceptional professionalism and commitment that embody the true essence of the aloha spirit; and

 

     WHEREAS, LYNE ELSMAN and JOCELYN NISHIOKA, 2019 Hawaii Healthcare Heroes, are currently working as patient navigators at The Queen's Women's Health Center Oncology Unit, where they play an important role in the care and treatment of breast cancer patients by providing hope and guidance throughout each patient's journey from diagnosis to surgery, treatment, and survivorship; they have always put their patients' interests first, working tirelessly with oncologists, surgeons, and other healthcare providers to ensure that necessary steps are taken to help ease chemotherapy and radiation treatments; and

 

     WHEREAS, WALTER IGAWA–SILVA, M.D., a 2019 Hawaii Healthcare Hero, is currently working as a Staff Physician at the Tripler Army Medical Center, Veterans Affairs Honolulu Regional Office; his dedication and exceptional professionalism have changed the lives of retired veterans and contributed to the health and well-being of those who have come under his care; he graduated from the Stanford University School of Medicine in 2013 and previously worked at Straub Clinic and Hospital in Honolulu; and

 

     WHEREAS, MERVIN "MERV" LUM, RPh., a 2019 Hawaii Healthcare Hero, works as a Pharmacist at Foodland Kapolei Pharmacy, and his determination, diligence, and unwavering dedication to helping patients manage their prescription needs have helped to promote their health and well-being, thereby improving their quality of life; and

 

     WHEREAS, AGUSTA "Angie" YORO, a 2019 Hawaii Healthcare Hero, is the Lead Medical Technician at Kalakaua Gardens, Oahu's premier senior assisted living facility, where she enjoys working with seniors and treats them as if they were her own parents or grandparents; always with a smile and encouraging words, she ensures that her patients take their medication, eat their meals, get dressed, and are ready to participate in the daily scheduled programs and activities; she is instrumental in providing a safe and secure environment for seniors, where they are treated with kindness and respect; and

 

     WHEREAS, these outstanding healthcare professionals have been selected as recipients of the 2019 Hawaii Healthcare Heroes award from a large field of nominees, representing individuals who routinely provide a quality of care that goes above and beyond the call of duty, thereby strengthening our families and communities; now, therefore,

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirtieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2020, that this body hereby recognizes and congratulates the 2019 Hawaii Healthcare Heroes for delivering outstanding and exemplary care to patients and their families across the State and extends to them its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all their future endeavors.
