HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
requesting the city and county of honolulu to purchase certain tax map key parcels to be used for additional parking and other community needs, as deemed necessary by the city and county of honolulu.
WHEREAS, the City and County of Honolulu has been experiencing a steady increase in the number of residents and visitors over the past decade; and
WHEREAS, the Island of Oahu experienced a population growth rate of 6.6 percent from 2010 to 2020, the highest of all the counties, and, for the first time ever, its population reached over 1,000,000; and
WHEREAS, in 2019, the State experienced a record high number of visitors, reaching 10,400,000; and
WHEREAS, since 2019 the number of visitors declined due to the coronavirus disease pandemic; however, with vaccination rates increasing throughout the nation, the State is seeing an increase in the number of visitors that could soon reach pre‑pandemic numbers; and
WHEREAS, the existing infrastructure of the City and County of Honolulu is insufficient to support the increase of residents and visitors; and
WHEREAS, lack of parking and insufficient outdoor spaces for community activities in the City and County of Honolulu continue to be a problem for residents and visitors; and
WHEREAS, there are lands in the City and County of Honolulu that can be better utilized to address the community needs of the City and County of Honolulu; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2022, the Senate concurring, that the City and County of Honolulu is requested to purchase the following tax map key parcels for additional parking and other community needs, as deemed necessary by the City and County of Honolulu:
(1) 1-2-6-024-034-0000;
(2) 1-2-6-024-035-0000;
(3) 1-2-6-024-036-0000;
(4) 1-2-6-024-037-0000;
(5) 1-2-6-024-038-0000;
(6) 1-2-6-024-039-0000;
(7) 1-2-6-024-040-0000;
(8) 1-2-6-024-042-0000;
(9) 1-2-6-024-043-0000;
(10) 1-2-6-024-044-0000;
(11) 1-2-6-024-045-0000;
(12) 1-2-6-024-065-0000;
(13) 1-2-6-024-066-0000;
(14) 1-2-6-024-067-0000;
(15) 1-2-6-024-068-0000;
(16) 1-2-6-024-080-0000;
(17) 1-2-6-024-081-0000;
(18) 1-2-6-024-082-0000; and
(19) 1-2-6-024-083-0000; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu and Director of the Department of Planning and Permitting of the City and County of Honolulu.
