A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO TRANSPORTATION.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 291C, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to part IV to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§291C-    Flood zone; depth gauge signs.  (a)  The department of transportation or appropriate county agency shall post a depth gauge sign on any portion of a public highway that:

     (1)  Is under its jurisdiction;

     (2)  Lies within a special flood hazard area; and

     (3)  Is prone to flooding.

     (b)  The depth gauge sign shall be posted in a manner consistent with the manual on uniform traffic control devices.

     (c)  As used in this section:

     "Depth gauge sign" means a depth gauge sign as defined by the manual on uniform traffic control devices.

     "Manual on uniform traffic control devices" means the manual on uniform traffic control devices, as amended, published by the Federal Highway Administration.

     "Public highway" shall have the same meaning as in section 264-1.

     "Special flood hazard area" means an area identified as a special flood hazard area by the Federal Emergency Management Agency."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2050.



 

Report Title:

Public Highways; Flooding Hazard; Depth Gauge Signs

 

Description:

Requires the posting of depth gauge signs on any portion of a public highway that lies within a special flood hazard area and is prone to flooding.  Requires that the signs be posted in a manner consistent with the Federal Highway Administration's Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.  (HB304 HD1)
