A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to vehicle safety.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Section 286-2, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new definition to be appropriately inserted and to read as follows:

     ""Solid axle" means any dependent suspension design in which the front set or rear set of wheels is connected laterally by a single beam or shaft."

     SECTION 2.  Section 286-85, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by amending subsection (a) to read as follows:

     "(a)  No person shall operate a reconstructed vehicle upon a public highway unless it has been inspected and certified by the designated county agency as meeting the specifications and requirements established in rules [and regulations] adopted by the state director of transportation.  The rules shall include specifications and requirements for authorizing the operation of a reconstructed vehicle that has been modified by the installation of one or more solid axles."

     SECTION 3.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
