A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO CORAL RESTORATION.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  There is established the ocean coral restoration pilot project.  The department of land and natural resources shall plan and design an expansion of the Hawaii coral restoration nursery, including improvements to the sea urchin hatchery, to help recover and protect the State's reef ecosystem.

     SECTION 2.  The department of land and natural resources shall submit a report to the legislature no later than twenty days prior to the regular session of 2021, on the outcomes of the pilot project, including details on the plan and design for the expansion, the anticipated cost of the expansion, and any proposed legislation.

     SECTION 3.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $           or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2020-2021 to plan and design an expansion of the coral restoration nursery.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of land and natural resources for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2050.
