H.B. NO.

TWENTY-EIGHTH LEGISLATURE, 2016

H.D. 1

STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

RELATING TO THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1.  The legislature finds that the University of Hawaii's staff attorneys bear unduly burdensome work caseloads statewide, particularly in contractual matters.  The legislature further finds that the provision of additional staff attorneys will result in a more reasonable distribution of workloads, and will therefore lead to more effective legal counsel for the University of Hawaii.

The purpose of this Act is to appropriate moneys to establish six full-time staff attorney positions (6.0 FTE) within the University of Hawaii system statewide.

SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $         or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2016-2017 for the University of Hawaii to hire six full-time equivalent staff attorneys (6.0 FTE) to provide legal counsel to the University of Hawaii statewide.

The sum appropriated shall be expended by the University of Hawaii for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2525.
