A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to food safety.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 145, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§145-     Food safety certified farms.  (a)  Any person engaged in the business of growing or producing any edible farm produce shall be a food safety certified farm prior to joining any agricultural organization within the State.

     (b)  As used in this section:

     "Agricultural organization" means any association, organization, or cooperative, whether for-profit or nonprofit, that accepts membership from producers.

     "Food safety certified farm" means a farm that has complied with all requirements to receive a successful third party food safety audit through the department."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
