A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and honoring Georgia Guard soldiers and airmen and others who have fallen during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, with December 15, 2011, marking the end of the Iraq War, we have reached a point of reflection in the long conflict against terrorism; and

WHEREAS, though the war on terrorism continues, we are pausing to reflect on the sacrifice of those Georgia Guard soldiers and airmen and others who have lost their lives during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom; and

WHEREAS, those known to have died during these operations include: SFC Victor Anderson, SFC John Beale, 1SG John Blair, SPC Daniel Boles, SPC Christopher Boone, SPC Jacques Brunson, SGT Brock Chavers, SGT Jerry DeLoach, SPC Joshua Dingler, SGT Philip Dodson, SSG George Draughn, SFC Amos Edwards, SSG Bobby Franklin, SSG Alex French IV, SSG Carl Fuller, SGT Marcus Futrell, SGT Jerry Ganey, SPC Mathew Gibbs, SSG Charles Gillican, SGT Jonathon Haggin, SFC Robert Hollar, SGT David Holmes, MAJ Kevin Jenrette, SPC Isaac Johnson, SSG David Jones, SGT Jeffrey Jordan, SGT James Kinlow, SGT Edward Koehler, SSG John McGee, SSG Chad Mercer, SSG Dennis Merck, SGT Raymundo Morales, SGT Foster Pinkston, SFC Edgar Roberts, Jr., SGT Anthony Saylor, SGT Ronnie Shelley, SPC Channing Singletary, SGT Michael Stokely, SGT Thomas Strickland, MSG Thomas Thigpen, SGT John Thomas, SSG Philip Travis, SFC Charles Warren, MSG Davy Weaver, and SFC Christopher Willoughby; and

WHEREAS, the great loss suffered by family members whose loved ones gave the ultimate sacrifice for this nation is unforgettable; and

WHEREAS, these soldiers and airmen embodied the spirit of service, willing to find meaning in something greater than themselves by serving as guardians of this nation's freedom, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments and sacrifices of these remarkable and distinguished fallen soldiers and airmen of Georgia be honored appropriately.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body honor the fallen soldiers and airmen of Georgia for their unselfish and dedicated public service to the citizens of this nation during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom and extend to the families of these soldiers and airmen their most profound appreciation for the ultimate sacrifice made by their loved ones upon the altar of freedom.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of each fallen soldier or airman named herein.
